Training and Mentoring

The Let Me Learn Professional Learning Process (LML PLP)

At the foundation of the Let Me Learn Process is the idea that learners are unique learning individuals. Let Me Learn is a tool that provides a structure and a language with which learners can engage in metacognitive thought and dialogue that brings the learning process to the forefront. Once learners have a representation of their learning profile, they are empowered to take control of their own learning process and make it work for them through the use of strategies.

For this to happen, learners initially need a mentor, a guide or an educator to guide them through the process of becoming independent and intentional learners. The educators in our schools are the people who are at the forefront of this endeavour and we believe that training in the implementation of the Let Me Learn Process will equip them with a powerful and effective tool.

The Let Me Learn Centre provides training to educators who are interested in becoming Let Me Learn practitioners. The training is available to teachers, LSE, KGEs and all other educational professionals that are involved in the students’ learning process, including EOs and members of the SLT.

This training process consists of 25 contact hours spread out throughout the scholastic year and normally held during school hours. During these sessions, educators are provided all the necessary help to become effective practitioners of the LML Process.

Topics that are explored during this training include:

  • The LML theoretical base including the Brain–Mind Connection and the Interactive Learning Model
  • Metacognition as the process that guides our learning.
  • The Learning Connections Inventory and Validation
  • Lesson Planning with reference to LML, the Learning Outcomes and Bloom’s Taxonomy
  • Cooperative Learning and appropriate LML strategies
  • Study Skills and Exam Strategies

Participants may choose to get accreditation by the University of Malta upon completion of course requirements. The accredited course (IAL 5003), is equivalent to 5 ECTS level 5.

Mentoring

Once educators complete training in the Let Me Learn Professional Learning Process, they may avail themselves of our mentoring services. Mentoring is also offered to individuals who have completed 4 ECTS in Let Me Learn in their B.Ed course at the University of Malta and are now employed in the teaching profession.

The aim of mentoring is to help educators in the implementation of the Let Me Learn process with their students. Mentoring provides an opportunity for educators to reflect on their progress and resolve their difficulties/challenges in a confidential environment with their mentor.

How can your mentor help you?

You mentor can help you in a number of ways and our support will be tailor-made depending on your particular needs. The following are some examples in which your mentor can help.
